Transform ordinary Fruits & Veggies
into works of art!

Make a Radish Mouse

Step 1: Shape the Mouse's Face.
Hold the radish between your thumb and index finger; cut a flat bottom with
a small paring knife so that the mouse will rest easily on a smooth surface.  Shape the
mouse's face into a point, leaving enough red skin to form the nose and ears.

Step 2: Making the Mouse's Body.
Remove all the red skin, rounding the end of the mouse leaving the stem (tail) intact.

Step 3: Forming the ears and eyes.
Cut an indention in the skin above the nose, shaping it into two round ears.
Use peppercorns, seeds or  whole cloves to make perfect eyes.

Look for more to come in the coming Months!

Garlic Tips
The best way to preserve garlic is to store
it in the freezer.

Easy way to peel: Stick garlic into the microwave
for 10 seconds; peels will slip right off.

Clean a Garlic Press: Squeeze a pat of cold
butter or margarine through it, which pushes
the excess garlic out of the holes. Then wash
with hot water.

Helpful Kitchen Tips

To bring milk to a boil... Before pouring milk into the pan, rub butter
along the top edge and inside the lid of the pan. Even if the milk foams up,
it will stop when it hits the butter.

To quickly chill a pot of hot soup to refrigerate it for next day serving..
keep a plastic bottle filled with water in the freezer.  Pul it out and place it
in the center of the pot.  The soup will cool down without dilution.

Be ready for the first strawberries of spring with a plastic package
drinking straws. Push a straw up through the bottom of the berry to
the stem end.  The straw will remove the bitter white core as well as the
leafy top.  (Later use tweezers to remove the leafy top only)

Dental floss works wonders when you need to slice cake layers
horizontally for a torte.

To cook buns more evenly invert a muffin pan, place each roll onto
the tin and bake as directed. Rolls come out perfectly browned.

To thicken gravy try using instant potato flakes instead of flour.

When boiling eggs either add a little food coloring to water of a drop of color on each egg.  You will never have to guess which eggs in the refrigerator are hard-boiled again.

Boiling sweet potatoes but hate to clean the sticky residue in the pan?  Place a small spoonful of vegetable shortening to the water.  Works every time.

When making a juicy berry pie, sprinkle the bottom crust lightly with
flour and sugar in equal parts.  This keeps the crust from becoming soggy before it can be completely eaten.
